Source: The University of Sydney: A study of the Twelve ReflectionsApāyavicaya (अपायविचय) refers to the “examination of suffering”, according to the 11th century Jñānārṇava, a treatise on Jain Yoga in roughly 2200 Sanskrit verses composed by Śubhacandra.—Accordingly, “The wise say that meditation which is the examination of suffering (apāyavicaya—apāyavicayaṃ dhyānaṃ tad) is the method that is taught by the sages wherein there is destruction of karma”.
