Apavṛj (अपवृज्).—7 A.

1) To avert, destroy, dissipate; तमः, शत्रुम् (tamaḥ, śatrum) &c.

2) To tear off, pull out, take out.

3) To conclude, finish, absolve. Caus.

1) To leave, quit, abandon, avoid; दूरापवर्जितच्छत्रैः शिरोभिः (dūrāpavarjitacchatraiḥ śirobhiḥ) R.17.79 keeping the umbrellas at a (great) distance; त्वयात्महस्तेन मही मदच्युता मतङ्गजेन स्रगिवापवर्जिता (tvayātmahastena mahī madacyutā mataṅgajena sragivāpavarjitā) Kirātārjunīya 1.29 abandoned, left, lost.

2) To let go, drop down, throw, pour; सुमनसो दिव्याः खेचरैरपवर्जिताः (sumanaso divyāḥ khecarairapavarjitāḥ) Bhāg.; करयुग्मपद्ममुकुलापवर्जितैः (karayugmapadmamukulāpavarjitaiḥ) Śi. 13.37.

3) To abandon, release, discharge, pay off (as debt &c.); absolve oneself from, fulfil, make good (as a promise).

4) To sever, separate, cut off; भल्लापवर्जितैस्तेषां शिरोभिः (bhallāpavarjitaisteṣāṃ śirobhiḥ) (mahī tastāra) R.4.63, Kirātārjunīya 17.58 severed or cut off by arrows; इमान्यमूनीत्यपवर्जिते शनैः (imānyamūnītyapavarjite śanaiḥ) Kirātārjunīya 8.2 plucked.

5) To overturn; empty; घटेऽपवर्जिते (ghaṭe'pavarjite) Y.3.3.

6) To honour, respect, esteem.

7) To give, bestow, grant, present; अपवर्जितं कोशजातम् (apavarjitaṃ kośajātam) Daśakumāracarita 36; दक्षिणामपवर्ज्य (dakṣiṇāmapavarjya) Mb.; अपवर्जितौ वरौ (apavarjitau varau) Rām.
