1) Loss, decay, decline, destruction; न वैनतेयो गरुडः प्रशंसति महाजनम् । दृष्ट्वा- सुपर्णोऽपचितिं महत्या अपि भारत (na vainateyo garuḍaḥ praśaṃsati mahājanam | dṛṣṭvā- suparṇo'pacitiṃ mahatyā api bhārata) || Mahābhārata (Bombay) 6.3.84.

2) Expense.

3) Atonement, amends; निहत्य पितृहन्तारं यास्याम्यपचितिं पितुः (nihatya pitṛhantāraṃ yāsyāmyapacitiṃ pituḥ) Bhāgavata 1.66.27. Compensation, expiation of sin.

1) Loss, destruction.

2) Expiation (of sin); e. g. in the Bhāgav. Purāṇa: na cedihaivāpacitiṃ yathāṃhasaḥ kṛtasya kuryānmanauktipāṇibhiḥ . dhruvaṃ sa vai pretya narakānupaiti; (comm. apacitiṃ = prāyaścittam).

3) Expense. E. ci with apa, kṛt aff. ktin. Ii.

1) Honour, respect; e. g. uttaṅkasya priyaṃ kartumātmanaśca mahatpriyam . bhavatāṃ caiva sarveṣāṃ gacchāmyapacitiṃ pituḥ .; (in the verse of the Mahābhār. kāryakālaṃ hi manyehaṃ vidhidṛṣṭasya karmaṇaḥ . tadgacchāpacitiṃ rājanpitustasya mahātmanaḥ, Nīlakaṇṭha explains apacitim = ānṛṇyam, freedom from obligation, but Arjunamiśra: pūjām).

2) A proper name: a daughter of Marīchi (accord. to the Vāyu and Linga Purāṇas). E. cāy with apa, kṛt aff. ktin, with an irregular change of cāy to ci.
