Anubandhya (अनुबन्ध्य).—a.

1) Principal, chief, primary (which may receive an adjunct, as a root, a disease &c.).

2) [vadhārthaṃ bandhaḥ anubandhaḥ karmaṇi ṇyat] To be killed (as a bull), one of the three principal sacrificial animals at the ज्योतिष्टोम (jyotiṣṭoma) sacrifice; गारनुबन्ध्यः (gāranubandhyaḥ) K. P.2.

Anubandhya (अनुबन्ध्य):—I. [tatpurusha compound] m. f.

(-ndhyaḥ-ndhyā) One of the three prin-cipal paśus or sacrificial animals in the Jyotiṣṭoma sacrifice. (See also agnīṣomīyapaśu and savanīyapaśu.) It is a cow, and the proceedings with it take place after the Avabhṛtha on the fifth day of the Agniṣṭoma (q. v.). But as the sacrifice of a cow is forbidden in the present or Kali-yuga, a substitute for it is an offering of curds of two-milk-whey.— Also written anūbandhya. E. bandh with anu, kṛtya aff. yat; with the ellipsis of paśu for the masc. and of go for the feminine. Ii. m. f. n.
