安心 [an xin]—Anshin — [Technical Term (術語 [shu yu])] Refers to the mind anticipating a certain point, settling there, and remaining truly unmoving. Regarding the methods of Anshin, each school has its own explanation. The Tiantai (天台 [tian tai]) school states that without the Three Truths (三諦 [san di]), there is no place for Anshin, and without Calming and Insight (止觀 [zhi guan]), there is no method for Anshin. The Chan (禪宗 [chan zong]) school takes the Unobtainable (不可得 [bu ke de]) as the place of Anshin; an example is when Bodhidharma (達磨 [da mo]) affirmed Huike (慧可 [hui ke]), saying he had achieved Anshin. The Pure Land (淨土門 [jing tu men]) tradition speaks extensively about Anshin. The Pure Land (淨土宗 [jing tu zong]) school considers the mind of aversion and joy (厭欣之心 [yan xin zhi xin]) as the general Anshin (總 [zong]), and the Three Minds (三心 [san xin]) – the Utmost Sincerity (至誠心 [zhi cheng xin]), Deep Mind (深心 [shen xin]), and Mind of Merit Transference (迴向心 [hui xiang xin]) – as the specific Anshin (別 [bie]), all of which are minds arisen by the practitioner (行者 [xing zhe]). The Shin (真宗 [zhen zong]) school states that a single thought (一念 [yi nian]) of faith and joy (信樂 [xin le]) embodies the Three Faiths (三信 [san xin]), and that great faith (大信 [da xin]) and great practice (大行 [da xing]) are all obtained through the transference of the power of the Tathagata's Primal Vow (如來本願力 [ru lai ben yuan li]); Anshin, in this context, is faith (信心 [xin xin]).
安心—【術語】謂心期待於某一點,而安住於此,確乎不動也。安心之法,諸宗各有其說。天台一家,謂離三諦無安心之處,離止觀無安心之法,禪宗以不可得為安心之處,如彼達磨印慧可,謂為安心了,即其例也。淨土門說,安心甚盛。淨土宗謂厭欣之心為總安心,至誠心深心迴向心之三心為別安心,俱為行者所起之心,真宗謂信樂開發之一念具三信,大信大行,悉由如來本願力迴向而獲得,安心即信心也。

闇心 [an xin]—Àn xīn — [Technical Term] Doubtful mind (疑心 [yi xin]). The Mahavairocana Sutra (大日经 [da ri jing]), Chapter 1, states: "What is the dark mind? It is to develop a doubtful understanding (疑虑解 [yi lu jie]) regarding a truth/dharma that is without doubt (无疑虑法 [wu yi lu fa])."
闇心—【術語】疑心也。大日經一曰:「云何闇心?於無疑慮法,生疑慮解。」
