Source: What is India: Inscriptions of the ŚilāhārasĀmadevaiya (आमदेवैय) is the name of a Brāhmaṇa mentioned in the “Bhāṇḍup plates of Chittarāja (Cittarāja)”.—Accordingly, “I (Cittarāja) have given with great devotion, and as a gift free from taxes, confirming it with the pouring out of water,—to the great Brāhmaṇa Āmadevaiya, the son of the Brāhmaṇa Noḍamaiya, who is always engaged in the performance of the six duties of sacrificing for himself and for others, studying (the Vedas etc.) and teaching them to others, and so forth, who is proficient in the performance of sacrifices, who belongs to the Parāśara gotra and the Chandoga Śākhā”.
These plates (mentioning Āmadevaiya) were found on the land belonging to Mr. Hormusji C. Ashburner at Bhāṇḍup in the island of Bombay. The object of it is to record the grant, by Cittarāja, of a field belonging to Voḍaṇibhaṭṭa in the village of Noura to the Brāhmaṇa Āmadevaiya. The grant is dated on Sunday, the fifteenth tithi of the bright fortnight of Kārttika in the Śaka year 948, the cyclic year being Kṣaya, on the occasion of a solar eclipse.
The history of India traces the identification of countries, villages, towns and other regions of India, as well as mythology, zoology, royal dynasties, rulers, tribes, local festivities and traditions and regional languages.
