Thera of Pagan. He wrote a Pali grammar, the Saddaniti, in 1154 (Gv.63; SvD.v.1238; Sas.74). He was tutor to King Narapatisithu of Pagan (Bode, 16).

The Gandha Vamsa calls him a native of Jambudipa (p.67), but his name occurs among the famous residents in the retired monastery of the northern plateau above Pagan, the cradle of Pali Burmese literature. Forchhammer Report, p.2; Jardine Prize Essay, p.34.
