Adhodiś (अधोदिश्) refers to the “direction of below”, according to the Viṃśikāvṛtti 7.—Accordingly, “For if an atom has one part in the direction of the east, [and others in the directions of the south, west, north, above] and below (adhodiś-bhāga), given that [the atom] is differentiated into [various] parts according to the directions, how could the atom be one [whereas it] consists of these [different parts]?”.
