Source: Sutta: The Pali Text Society's Pali-English DictionaryAddhānamagga refers to: a (proper) road for journeying, a long road between two towns, high road D.I, 1, 73, 79; M.I, 276 (kantār°); DA.I, 35 (interpreted as “addhayojanaṃ gacchissāmī ti bhuñjitabban ti ādi vacanato addha-yojanam pi addhāna maggo hoti”, thus taken to addha “half”, from counting by 1/2 miles); VvA.40, 292. Cp. also antarāmagga.
Note: addhānamagga is a Pali compound consisting of the words addhāna and magga.
Pali is the language of the Tipiṭaka, which is the sacred canon of Theravāda Buddhism and contains much of the Buddha’s speech. Closeley related to Sanskrit, both languages are used interchangeably between religions.
