Abhyarthayamāna (अभ्यर्थयमान):—[tatpurusha compound] m. f. n.

(-naḥ-nā-nam) One who requests or solicits; e. g. Mitākṣ. (on Āpastamba): tatrāpravṛttasya pravartakaḥ prayojakaḥ . sa ca triprakāraḥ . ājñāpayitābhyarthayamāna upadeṣṭeti ca .…abhyarthayamānastu yaḥ svayamasamarthaḥ prārthanādinā macchatruṃ vyāpādayeti samarthaṃ pravartayati sobhidhīyate… In a legal sense the abhyaº is therefore the instigator of a crime, who has not the power of doing the criminal act himself but requests another who has the power, to do it for him; while the ājñāpayitṛ is the person who orders his subordinate to accomplish the criminal act, and the upadeṣṭṛ the person who instructs others how to do it; all three belonging to the category prayojaka. E. arth with abhi, kṛt aff. śānac and āgama muk.
