Abhitas (अभितस्).—ind. (Used as an adverb or preposition with acc.)

1) Near to, to, towards; अभितस्तं पृथासूनुः स्नेहेन परितस्तरे (abhitastaṃ pṛthāsūnuḥ snehena paritastare) Kirātārjunīya 11.8. संनद्धा निर्ययुस्तूर्णं राक्षसानभितः पुरान् (saṃnaddhā niryayustūrṇaṃ rākṣasānabhitaḥ purān) Rām.7.27.22.

2) (a) Near, hard by, close by, in the proximity of; ततो राजाब्रवीद्वाक्यं सुमन्त्रमभितः स्थितम् (tato rājābravīdvākyaṃ sumantramabhitaḥ sthitam) Rām.; sometimes with gen.; निषसादाभितस्तस्य (niṣasādābhitastasya) ibid. (b) Before, in the presence of; तन्वन्तमिद्धमभितो गुरुमंशुजालम् (tanvantamiddhamabhito gurumaṃśujālam) Ki. 2.59.

3) Opposite to, facing, in front of; त्रिपथगामभितः (tripathagāmabhitaḥ) Kirātārjunīya 6.1,5.14.

4) On both sides; चूडाचुम्बितकङ्कपत्रमभि- तस्तूणीद्वयं पृष्ठतः (cūḍācumbitakaṅkapatramabhi- tastūṇīdvayaṃ pṛṣṭhataḥ) Uttararāmacarita 4,2; Mv.1.18; पादपैः पुष्प- पत्राणि सृजद्भिरभितो नदीम् (pādapaiḥ puṣpa- patrāṇi sṛjadbhirabhito nadīm) Rām. Ś.6.17; Bhaṭṭikāvya 9.137.

Abhitas (अभितस्):—ind. (used absolutely or with a noun in the accusa-tive)

1) Before, in the presence of, towards; e. g. Kirātārj.: vyaktoditasmitamayūkhavibhāsitoṣṭhastiṣṭhanmunerabhimukhaṃ sa vikīrṇadhāmnaḥ . tanvantamiddhamabhito gurumaṃśujālaṃ lakṣmīmuvāha sakalasya śaśāṅkamūrteḥ (Mallin.: abhitobhimukhaṃ tiṣṭhata iti śeṣaḥ).

2) Near; e. g. Sāvitrī: abhitaścāgataṃ premṇā pratyākhyātuṃ na mārhasi.

3) On both sides; e. g. Bhaṭṭik.: nirākariṣṇavo bhānuṃ divaṃ vartiṣṇavobhitaḥ . alaṃkariṣṇavo bhāntastaḍitvantaścariṣṇavaḥ (Jayam.: divamabhito vartiṣṇavaḥ…pūrvapaścimayorvartanahetutvāt); or parijanamabhito vilokya dāhaṃ daśavadanaḥ pradideśa vānarasya (Jayam.: = ubhayapārśvasthitān); comp. also the quotation s. v. abhijit I. 2. 2. where Mādhava explains viśvajidabhijitāvekāhāvabhitaḥ thus: ādau viśvajit . ante bhijidityarthaḥ; i. e. in the beginning—at the end; comp. also abhitobhāva.
