A bandage, a ligature; Ṛgv.: ya ṛte cidabhiśriṣaḥ purā jatrubhya ātṛdaḥ . saṃdhātā saṃdhiṃ maghavā purūvasuriṣkartā vihutaṃ punaḥ (Sāyaṇa: ya indro bhiśriṣobhiśliṣobhiśleṣaṇātsaṃdhānadravyādṛte cit vināpi &c.; to judge from an E. I. H. Ms. of Sāyaṇa's comm. on the Sāmav., which however is very indifferent, the corresponding verse in the Sāmav. seems to have been read by Sāyaṇa: ya ṛte cidabhiśriyaḥ purā &c., for the comm. runs there: ya indra ṛte yajñe…. abhirābhimukhyena śrayati śrayaṇārthaḥ . ābhimukhyena sṛtaḥ (sic) . abhiśṛtasya (sic) abhiśṛṣaḥ (sic) yajñe . āśritasya mahāvīrasyetyarthaḥ). E. śriṣ with abhi, kṛt aff. kvip.
