(-śaḥ) (ved.) (Probably.) Asking, soli-citation; Ṛgv.: yadāśasā niḥśasābhiśasopārima jāgrato yatsvapantaḥ (v. 1. Atharvav.: avaśasā niḥśasā yatparāśasopārima &c.). [The Ms. comm. of Sāyaṇa on the Ṛgv. at my disposal omits the gloss on this word; it renders āśasā = abhilāṣeṇa and niḥśasā = nirgatābhilāṣeṇa.] E. śaṃs with abhi, kṛt aff. kvip.
