阿斗 [ā dòu] [a dou]—
1. The nickname of Liu Shan (劉禪 [liu chan]), the last ruler of the Shu Han (蜀漢 [shu han]) state during the Three Kingdoms period. See the entry for "Liu Shan (劉禪 [liu chan])."
2. Liu Shan (劉禪 [liu chan]), the last ruler of Shu Han (蜀漢 [shu han]), was incompetent and incapable, and his state was eventually destroyed by Cao Wei (曹魏 [cao wei]). Later, it is used as a metaphor for someone who is utterly incapable. For example: "No matter how you teach him, he can't learn it; he's truly an Adou who can't be helped up."

2.蜀漢後主劉禪昏庸無能,終為曹魏所滅。後比喻毫無能力者。如:「他怎麼教都教不會,真是個扶不起的阿斗。」
