Significance of Lycopolis

Lycopolis, as known by the Greeks, was an Egyptian town where the jackal was the sacred animal of Assiut. Uniquely, the inhabitants of Lycopolis, along with those of Busiris, abstained from using trumpets. This avoidance stemmed from the instrument's sound being reminiscent of an ass's bray, a sound they seemingly wished to disassociate from their community.
