The Buddha Carita (Saddharma-pundarika) by Asvaghosa a famous Sanskrit text revolving around the live and exploits of the Buddha. The Buddha Carita (Buddhacarita) is written in the style of a Kavya (or Mahakavya, epic poetry) and extant original Sanskrit text consists of roughly 1,000 metrical verses.

Verse 14.18

सुखार्थमशुभं कृत्वा य एते भृशदुःखिताः ।
आस्वादः स किमेतेषां करोति सुखमण्वपि ॥ १८ ॥

sukhārthamaśubhaṃ kṛtvā ya ete bhṛśaduḥkhitāḥ |
āsvādaḥ sa kimeteṣāṃ karoti sukhamaṇvapi || 18 ||

These who did something evil for the sake of pleasure and are now grievously pained,—does that old taste produce even an atom of pleasure to them now?
