The Buddha Carita (Saddharma-pundarika) by Asvaghosa a famous Sanskrit text revolving around the live and exploits of the Buddha. The Buddha Carita (Buddhacarita) is written in the style of a Kavya (or Mahakavya, epic poetry) and extant original Sanskrit text consists of roughly 1,000 metrical verses.

Verse 11.34

कामान्धसञ्ज्ञः कृपणं करोति प्राप्नोति दुःखं वधबन्धनादि ।
कामार्थमाशाकृपणस्तपस्वी मृत्युश्रमं चार्हति जीवलोके ॥ ३४ ॥

kāmāndhasañjñaḥ kṛpaṇaṃ karoti prāpnoti duḥkhaṃ vadhabandhanādi |
kāmārthamāśākṛpaṇastapasvī mṛtyuśramaṃ cārhati jīvaloke || 34 ||

'He whose intellect is blinded with pleasure does pitiable things; he incurs calamities, such as death, bonds, and the like; the wretch, who is the miserable slave of hope for the sake of pleasure, well deserves the pain of death even in the world of the living.
