The Buddha Carita (Saddharma-pundarika) by Asvaghosa a famous Sanskrit text revolving around the live and exploits of the Buddha. The Buddha Carita (Buddhacarita) is written in the style of a Kavya (or Mahakavya, epic poetry) and extant original Sanskrit text consists of roughly 1,000 metrical verses.

Verse 8.7

ततो भ्रमद्भिर्दिशि दीनमानसैरनुज्ज्वलैर्वाष्पहतेक्षणैर्नरैः ।
निवार्यमाणाविव तावुभौ पुरं शनैरजःस्नातमिवाभिजग्मतुः ॥ ७ ॥

tato bhramadbhirdiśi dīnamānasairanujjvalairvāṣpahatekṣaṇairnaraiḥ |
nivāryamāṇāviva tāvubhau puraṃ śanairajaḥsnātamivābhijagmatuḥ || 7 ||

Then those two,—who were as it were silently forbidden by the sad inhabitants who were wandering in that direction, their brightness gone and their eyes dim with tears,—-slowly entered the city which seemed all bathed in gloom.
