The Buddha Carita (Saddharma-pundarika) by Asvaghosa a famous Sanskrit text revolving around the live and exploits of the Buddha. The Buddha Carita (Buddhacarita) is written in the style of a Kavya (or Mahakavya, epic poetry) and extant original Sanskrit text consists of roughly 1,000 metrical verses.

Verse 6.3

स विस्मयनिवृत्त्यर्थं तपःपूजार्थमेव च ।
स्वां चानुवर्तितां रक्षन्नश्वपृष्ठादवातरत् ॥ ३ ॥

sa vismayanivṛttyarthaṃ tapaḥpūjārthameva ca |
svāṃ cānuvartitāṃ rakṣannaśvapṛṣṭhādavātarat || 3 ||

For the sake of ending his wonder and to show reverence for the penances observed, and as expressing his own conformity therewith, he alighted from the back of his horse.
