The Buddha Carita (Saddharma-pundarika) by Asvaghosa a famous Sanskrit text revolving around the live and exploits of the Buddha. The Buddha Carita (Buddhacarita) is written in the style of a Kavya (or Mahakavya, epic poetry) and extant original Sanskrit text consists of roughly 1,000 metrical verses.

Verse 3.7

अथो नरेन्द्रः सुतमागताश्रुः शिरस्युपाघ्राय चिरं निरीक्ष्य ।
गच्छेति चाज्ञापयति स्म वाचा स्नेहान्न चैनं मनसा मुमोच ॥ ७ ॥

atho narendraḥ sutamāgatāśruḥ śirasyupāghrāya ciraṃ nirīkṣya |
gaccheti cājñāpayati sma vācā snehānna cainaṃ manasā mumoca || 7 ||

Then the king, with tears rising to his eyes, having smelt his son's head and long gazed upon him, gave him his permission, saying, 'Go;' but in his heart through affection he could not let him depart.
