[0871a25] At that time, the World-Honored One (世尊 [shi zun]) told Ānanda (阿難 [a nan]): "Elder Ānanda! Take this outsider woman Bhadrā Kāpilīya (跋陀羅迦卑梨耶外道之女 [ba tuo luo jia bei li ye wai dao zhi nu]) and entrust her to Mahāprajāpatī Gautamī (摩訶波闍波提憍曇彌 [mo he bo du bo ti jiao tan mi]), commanding her with these words: 'Teach this outsider woman Bhadrā Kāpilīya (跋陀羅迦卑梨耶外道之女 [ba tuo luo jia bei li ye wai dao zhi nu]) to renounce home and grant her the full precepts. This woman will attain complete spiritual powers (神通具足 [shen tong ju zu]) and great might.'"

[0871b01] At that time, the elder Ānanda (長老阿難 [zhang lao a nan]), following the Buddha's command, said to the Buddha: "As the World-Honored One commands, I will not dare to disobey." He then took the woman and went to the bhikṣuṇī Mahāprajāpatī Gautamī (摩訶波闍波提憍曇彌 [mo he bo du bo ti jiao tan mi]), and when he arrived, he fully explained the matter as above.
