Now you again request me to benefit the world by expounding this great and majestic sutra, the practices of Bodhisattvas, the realm of Tathāgatas, and their supernormal powers and playful acts. If you can uphold, read, recite, and explain it to others, then my Dharma seal will be further expanded. If a Bodhisattva vehicle practitioner hears this sutra, they will certainly be greatly delighted and experience what they have never had before, giving rise to a firm and diligent mind to seek 阿耨多羅三藐三菩提 [a nou duo luo san miao san pu ti] Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi. [0617a06] At that time, the 世尊 [shi zun] World-Honored One again spoke in gāthā:
"With the Buddha-eye I observe,
Seeing all sentient beings completely.
If all sentient beings,
Were all like 舍利弗 [she li fu] Śāriputra.
If a person, for an eon,
With various fragrant flowers,
Clothing, bedding, and so on,
Makes offerings to such a multitude,
The merits obtained,
Are not equal to one day and night,
Offering to a single 辟支佛 [pi zhi fu] Pratyekabuddha.
If all worlds,
Were all like 辟支佛 [pi zhi fu] Pratyekabuddhas,
If a person, for an eon,
With various fragrant flowers,
Clothing, bedding, and so on,
Makes offerings to such a multitude,
The merits obtained,
Are not equal to a pure mind,
Reciting 'Namo Buddha' once.
If all worlds,
Were all like the 佛世尊 [fu shi zun] Buddha World-Honored One,
If a person, for an eon,
With various fragrant flowers,
Clothing, bedding, and so on,
Makes offerings to all 諸如來 [zhu ru lai] Tathāgatas,
The merits obtained,
Are not equal to one person,
Who, day and night,
Reads and recites this sutra.
If a person, over countless,
Hundreds, thousands, tens of thousands, millions of eons,
With various fragrant flowers,
Clothing, bedding, and so on,
Makes offerings as previously described,
To countless śrāvaka multitudes,
All 辟支佛 [pi zhi fu] Pratyekabuddhas,
And all those 諸如來 [zhu ru lai] Tathāgatas,
The merits obtained,
Are not equal to one person,
Who upholds this sutra,
Even to a four-line gāthā,
And explains it to others.
Among all the sutras I have spoken,
This sutra is the most supreme.
All 一切諸如來 [yi qie zhu ru lai] Tathāgatas,
Have all emerged from this sutra.
Wherever this sutra resides,
There is a 如來 [ru lai] Tathāgata.
If one copies and upholds it,
And widely disseminates it everywhere,
They can expound a single phrase,
For endless eons,
Their blessings and wisdom self-adorned,
Full and vast like the great ocean.
If one hears this sutra,
They should constantly cultivate it,
Their merits are immeasurable."
