At one time, the Buddha (佛 [fu]) was in the Jetavana Anathapindika Garden (祇樹給孤獨園 [qi shu gei gu du yuan]) in Śrāvastī (舍衛國 [she wei guo]).

[0583a11] At that time, the World-Honored One (世尊 [shi zun]) told the bhikkhus (比丘 [bi qiu]): "There are these two dharmas (法 [fa]) that exist in the world and are extremely afflicting. What are these two dharmas (法 [fa])? Namely, acting as the root of all evil, giving rise to all resentments, and not cultivating the root of virtuous conduct. This, bhikkhus (比丘 [bi qiu]), is the meaning of the two dharmas (法 [fa]) that are extremely afflicting. Therefore, bhikkhus (比丘 [bi qiu])! You should awaken to these afflicting dharmas (法 [fa]), and you should also awaken to the non-afflicting dharmas (法 [fa]). The afflicting dharmas (法 [fa]) should be remembered and eliminated; the non-afflicting dharmas (法 [fa]) should be remembered and cultivated. Thus, bhikkhus (比丘 [bi qiu])! You should learn this."
