At one time, the Buddha (佛 [fu]) was in the Jetavana (祇樹 [qi shu]) Grove, in Anāthapiṇḍika's Park (給孤獨園 [gei gu du yuan]), in the country of Śrāvastī (舍衛國 [she wei guo]).

[0580b03] At that time, the World-Honored One (世尊 [shi zun]) told the bhikkhus (比丘 [bi qiu]), "I will now speak to you of the subtle Dharma (法 [fa]), good at the beginning, good in the middle, and good at the end, meaningful and flavorful, enabling the complete cultivation of the pure conduct (梵行 [fan xing]). This refers to the two Dharmas (二法 [er fa]). Listen carefully! Listen carefully! Contemplate well. I will fully explain it to you."

[0580b06] The bhikkhus (諸比丘 [zhu bi qiu]) replied, "Yes, World-Honored One (世尊 [shi zun])!" At that time, the bhikkhus (諸比丘 [zhu bi qiu]) received the Buddha's (佛 [fu]) teaching.

[0580b07] The World-Honored One (世尊 [shi zun]) said, "What are the two Dharmas (二法 [er fa])? They are: wrong view (邪見 [xie jian]) and right view (正見 [zheng jian]); wrong intention (邪治 [xie zhi]) and right intention (正治 [zheng zhi]); wrong speech (邪語 [xie yu]) and right speech (正語 [zheng yu]); wrong action (邪業 [xie ye]) and right action (正業 [zheng ye]); wrong livelihood (邪命 [xie ming]) and right livelihood (正命 [zheng ming]); wrong effort (邪方便 [xie fang bian]) and right effort (正方便 [zheng fang bian]); wrong mindfulness (邪念 [xie nian]) and right mindfulness (正念 [zheng nian]); wrong concentration (邪三昧 [xie san mei]) and right concentration (正三昧 [zheng san mei]). These, bhikkhus (比丘 [bi qiu]), are called the two Dharmas (二法 [er fa]). I have now explained these two Dharmas (二法 [er fa]) to you. What the Tathāgata (如來 [ru lai]) should do is now complete. Contemplate and recite well, without laziness. If you do not practice now, you will regret it later, and it will be too late."
