Chapter 39 - Visit to a farming village

rājā saṃlakṣayati: haiva teṣāṃ brāhmaṇānāṃ naimittikānāṃ vipañcanakānāṃ vacanaṃ satyaṃ bhūtaṃ bhaviṣyati; haiva kumāraḥ keśaśmaśrvavatārya kāṣāyāṇi vastrāṇyācchādya samyageva śraddhayā agārādanagārikāṃ pravrajiṣyati; yanvahaṃ kumāraṃ kārṣagrāmakaṃ preṣayeyam; apyeva tatra cittaṃ vinodayediti viditvā śākyamuniṃ kumāramidamavocat: ehi tvaṃ kumāra kārṣakagrāmakaṃ gaccha; (a 372 ) karmāntānyavalokaya iti; tato bodhisatvo jīrṇāturamṛtasandarśanādudvignaḥ pravrajyāyāmabhiniviṣṭabuddhiḥ pituḥ śākyasya śuddhodanasya vacanānukāritayā rathamabhiruhya kārṣagrāmakaṃ saṃprasthitaḥ kāyena no tu cittena; tasyāntarmārge pañcabhirnidhiśatairmukhānyupadarśitāni; śabdaśca niścāritaḥ: kumāra vayaṃ tava jñātisantakā nidhayo gṛhāṇāsmāniti; bodhisatvaḥ kathayati: taistāvanmohaparigrahaṃ kṛtvā kiṃ kṛtam; gacchata mama na yuṣmābhiḥ prayojanamiti; gāthāṃ ca bhāṣate (76)
yairapi kṛtā'mṛtakathā te'pyasmākaṃ mṛtāḥ kathībhūtāḥ |
vayamapi mṛtāḥ pareṣāṃ nacireṇa kathībhaviṣyāmaḥ ||
taiḥ punarapi śabdo niścāritaḥ: yadyasmākaṃ kumāro na gṛhṇāti vayaṃ mhāsamudraṃ viśāma iti; bodhisatvaḥ kathayati: praviśata yathāsukhamiti; te mahāsamudraṃ praviṣṭāḥ; bodhisatvaḥ saṃprasthito yāvatpaśyati kārṣakānuddhūtaśiraskān sphuṭitapāṇipādān rajasāvacūrṇitagātrān; balīvardāṃśca pratodavikṣataśarīrān rudhirāvasiktapṛṣṭhakaṭipradeśān kṣutpipāsāśramoparudhyamānaprāṇān, pratataniśvāsoparudhyamānahṛdayān, yutagotpīḍanapragaḍitavraṇapūyaśoṇitān, makṣikākṛmisaṅghātabhakṣyamāṇaskandhaprāṇān, halayugavilikhitacaraṇān, lālāśiṅghāṇakaprasrutamukhanāsān, daṃśamaśakacarmaprāṇakākīrṇān; dṛṣṭvā ca punaranādikālapuṇyopacayasaṃbhṛtayā karuṇayā paryākulīkṛtamanāḥ kārṣakānidamavocat: bhavantaḥ kasya yūyaṃ? te kathayanti: devasya; sa kathayati: gacchata, bhavanto, yūyamadyāgreṇādāsā apreṣyābhujiṣyā yenakāmagamā sukhasparśaṃ viharata; balīvardāśca uktāḥ: gacchata yūyamapyadyāgreṇa acchinnāgrāṇi tṛṇāni bhakṣayata; anavamarditāni svacchāni ca pānīyāni pibata anāvilāni; caturdiśaṃ ca śītalā vāyavo vāntviti |
