Chapter 21 - Asita, Nālada and the yakṣa Śākyavardhana

kiṣkindhe parvate asito nāma riṣiḥ prativasati saṃvartanīyakuśalo vivartanīyakuśalaśca tasya nālado nāma bhāgineyaḥ; sa tasya kālena kālaṃ saṃvartanīyavivartanīyaṃ kathayati; sa tasya sakāśe pravrajitaḥ; bodhisatvasya (47) bhagavato janmani sarvaloka udāreṇāvabhāsena sphuṭo'bhūt; tena khalu samayena nālado guhāṃ praviśya dhyāyati; sa tamavabhāsaṃ dṛṣṭvā asitamuvāca; upādhyāya upādhyāya
utpadyante hi kiṃ sarve yugapatbhāskarā iha |
tathā hi saguhā śailā dīptā iva gabhastibhiḥ ||
asitastvabravīttīkṣṇā bhanoḥ śītā tviyaṃ prabhā |
tadasmin praviśatyābhirnūnameṣā muniprabhā ||
niṣkrāmati dhruvaṃ kukṣeḥ bodhisatvo mahādyutiḥ |
iyaṃ niṣkrāmatastasya māhāsatvasya nirmalā |
prabhā kāñcanasaṅkāśā lokeṣu visṛtā triṣu ||
nāladaḥ kathayati: upādhyāya gacchāmo bodhisatvaṃ paśyāmaḥ; sa kathayati: vatsa idānīṃ bodhisatvo maheśākhyamaheśākhyābhirdevatābhirākīrṇo viharati; sthānametadvidyate yadvayamavakāśaṃ na lapsyāmahe; yadā bhagavān kapilavastu praveśito bhavati, nāma cāsya vyavasthāpitam, tadā vayaṃ darśanāyopasaṅkramiśyāma iti; yameva divasaṃ bodhisatvo bhagavān jātaḥ tameva divasaṃ rājñaḥ śuddhodanasya chandakapramukhāni pañcopasthāyakaśatāni jātāni; cchandikāpramukhāni pañcopasthāyikaśatāni <jātāni>; pañcahastinīśatāni prasūtāni; pañcavaḍavāśatāni pañcabhirnidhiśatairmukhānyupadarśitāni; prātisīmaiśca koṭṭarājabhiḥ karapratyayā upanibaddhāḥ
