by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 111.10

tathaivam āsanā ramyā divyā haritaśādvalā |
āsannodakasaṃchannā śītacchāyā manoramāḥ |
yāni te cātra gamāpensuḥ kāṃ nu te diśatāṃ gatāḥ || 10 ||

To what regions are they now gone, who spent their lives among these delightful and heavenly resorts, with their green grass nestling by the water, shady and cool and pleasant? (10)
