Mahavastu [sanskrit verses and english]

by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 104.11

विस्नापिय सर्वपापकानि अध्यात्म वहिर्धा च सर्वलोके ।
देवमनुष्येहि कल्पितानि कल्पं नेति पुनर् स्नातको मे ॥ ११ ॥

visnāpiya sarvapāpakāni adhyātma vahirdhā ca sarvaloke |
devamanuṣyehi kalpitāni kalpaṃ neti punar snātako me || 11 ||

He who has washed away all his sins, within, without, in all the world; who does not again come to the world of time among devas and men who are subject to time—he is “one who has bathed”. (11)
