Mahavastu [sanskrit verses and english]

by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 103.42

यो मुनी बहु भाषति उपेतं अर्थसंहितं ।
निर्वाणं साक्षात्कुर्याय जानन्तो बहु भाषति ॥ ४२ ॥

yo munī bahu bhāṣati upetaṃ arthasaṃhitaṃ |
nirvāṇaṃ sākṣātkuryāya jānanto bahu bhāṣati || 42 ||

When the sage speaks much it is all on and about the goal. Because he knows nirvana he speaks much for the realisation of it. (42)
