by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 103.18

सो हं भगवन् अनुप्राप्तो साधु त्वं प्रव्राजेहि मां ।
वैशारद्येहि संपन्नां वाचां भाषे तथागतो ॥ १८ ॥

so haṃ bhagavan anuprāpto sādhu tvaṃ pravrājehi māṃ |
vaiśāradyehi saṃpannāṃ vācāṃ bhāṣe tathāgato || 18 ||

And so, Lord, here I have come. Well would it be if thou wouldst ordain me”. The Tathagata replied in words that were full of assurance. (18)
