by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 102.14

तव दशदिशतां गतो प्रणादो जनविषयेषु च नास्ति कोचि तुल्यो ।
परमगतिगतो सि धर्मताये दशशतरसगोत्र तं प्रियं मे ॥ १४ ॥

tava daśadiśatāṃ gato praṇādo janaviṣayeṣu ca nāsti koci tulyo |
paramagatigato si dharmatāye daśaśatarasagotra taṃ priyaṃ me || 14 ||

Glad am I, O kinsman of the sun, that thy cry of “In all the habitations of men there is none equal to me” permeated the ten quarters. Thou hast reached the highest sphere in accordance with thy nature. (14)
