Mahavastu [sanskrit verses and english]

by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 100.25

यो संयतां प्रव्रजितां विहिंसे अन्नेन पानेन निमन्त्रयित्वा ।
तं नालिकेरं शुनखा परत्र प्रसह्य खादन्ति विचेष्टमानं ॥ २५ ॥

yo saṃyatāṃ pravrajitāṃ vihiṃse annena pānena nimantrayitvā |
taṃ nālikeraṃ śunakhā paratra prasahya khādanti viceṣṭamānaṃ || 25 ||

And as for Nalikera who violated the self-controlled religious men after inviting them to eat and drink with him, in the other world dogs attack him and devour him as he lies writhing on the ground. (25)
