This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 98.11

एषो गजसत्वसारो बोधाय चरन्तो वादिप्रवरो ।
उत्तीर्णो लवणसलिलं ममेदं न विदितं प्रमत्ताये ॥ ११ ॥

eṣo gajasatvasāro bodhāya caranto vādipravaro |
uttīrṇo lavaṇasalilaṃ mamedaṃ na viditaṃ pramattāye || 11 ||

“This Most Eloquent One,” said she, “this most select of elephants, while he fared on in quest of enlightenment, was crossing the briny ocean. But I in my heedlessness was not aware of it. (11)
