Mahavastu [sanskrit]

by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 96.2

लोकधातुसहस्राणि असंख्येयानि घोषये ।
श्रूयति वरबुद्धिस्य यथा दूरे थ सन्तिके ॥ २ ॥

lokadhātusahasrāṇi asaṃkhyeyāni ghoṣaye |
śrūyati varabuddhisya yathā dūre tha santike || 2 ||

He shouts through countless thousands of worlds and the sound of the voice of the nobly intelligent One is heard both far and near. (2)
