by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 94.37

paścimasmiṃ diśobhāge asto nāmena parvato |
āvarto candrasūryāṇāṃ asto arthaṃ dadātu vo |
so pi vo abhipāletu bhūmīye bhavanena ca || 37 ||

In the region of the western quarter is a mountain called Asta, where the moon and sun turn round. May Asta give you wealth. May it, too, watch over you abroad and at home. (37)
