This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 91.35

महाजनो समागम्य स्त्रियश् च पुरुषा पि च ।
पुरुषं परिभाषन्ति कस्माद् उज्झेसि भार्यरां ॥ ३५ ॥

mahājano samāgamya striyaś ca puruṣā pi ca |
puruṣaṃ paribhāṣanti kasmād ujjhesi bhāryarāṃ || 35 ||

The people came together, both men and women, and reproved the man, saying, “Why do you desert your wife?” (35)
