by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 90.60

ये ते असंस्कृतायुश् च दण्डकर्मेहि वर्जिता ।
उरसा लोकनाथस्य ते खु भेष्यन्ति हर्षिता ॥ ६० ॥

ye te asaṃskṛtāyuś ca daṇḍakarmehi varjitā |
urasā lokanāthasya te khu bheṣyanti harṣitā || 60 ||

Those, too, whose lives are no more to be re-compounded and are rid of karma that demands requital, the beloved of the Saviour of the world, will be enraptured. (60)
