This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 89.11

आचिक्षे मह्यं जननि यदि ते दृष्टं श्रुतं पि वा पूर्वं ।
कस्यार्थाये मम सो अतिरिव चित्तं प्रसादेति ॥ ११ ॥

ācikṣe mahyaṃ janani yadi te dṛṣṭaṃ śrutaṃ pi vā pūrvaṃ |
kasyārthāye mama so atiriva cittaṃ prasādeti || 11 ||

“Tell me, mother, if you have seen or heard of him before, why he so greatly gladdens my heart.” (11)
