This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 89.8

तुष्टो भवामि दृष्ट्वागच्छन्तं दूरतो कनकवर्णं ।
प्रतिगच्छन्ते तु अहं दुःखितो भवामि अभावेन ॥ ८ ॥

tuṣṭo bhavāmi dṛṣṭvāgacchantaṃ dūrato kanakavarṇaṃ |
pratigacchante tu ahaṃ duḥkhito bhavāmi abhāvena || 8 ||

“I was glad when from a distance I saw him coming in his golden beauty. And when he went away again I was grieved at his absence. (8)
