This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 89.2

वाराणचकोरनयनां अंजनपूरेहि मुदितनयनेहि ।
मातरम् अवलोकयन्तो निध्यायति राहुलो सुगतं ॥ २ ॥

vārāṇacakoranayanāṃ aṃjanapūrehi muditanayanehi |
mātaram avalokayanto nidhyāyati rāhulo sugataṃ || 2 ||

After glancing at his mother, Rahula, with his joyful and jet-black eyes like those of an elephant or a partridge, regarded the Sugata. (2)
