by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 88.6

yatra na jānati jarāṃ na ca mṛtyuṃ vyādhiṃ na ca + + + priyajanaḥ priyaviprayogaḥ |
śāntaṃ nirālayaṃ nirantaraduḥkhamokṣaṃ prārthayāmi padam acyutaṃ nirvṛtiṃ ca || 6 ||

“I seek the immovable state of nirvana, which knows no old age, death or disease, where there is no loved one nor separation from a loved one, but the peace that comes from homelessness, and constant freedom from ill.” (6)
