This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.
Verse 87.17
एतेषां बुद्धानां परंपराये दीपंकरो पश्चिमको अभूषि ।
महानुभावो ऋषिसंघनायको विनेसि सो श्रावकसहस्राणि अशीतिं ।
पुरस्कृतो श्रमणगणस्य नायको सो प्राविशेद् दीपवतीं सुनिर्मितां ॥ १७ ॥
eteṣāṃ buddhānāṃ paraṃparāye dīpaṃkaro paścimako abhūṣi |
mahānubhāvo ṛṣisaṃghanāyako vinesi so śrāvakasahasrāṇi aśītiṃ |
puraskṛto śramaṇagaṇasya nāyako so prāviśed dīpavatīṃ sunirmitāṃ || 17 ||
In the succession of these Buddhas, Dipamkara was the last. Mighty in power, Leader of a host of seers, he instructed eighty thousand disciples. He, the honoured Leader of a throng of recluses, entered the well-built city of Dipavti. (17)
