by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 86.21

श्रद्दधाम वयं भवतो यथा गोविन्दो भाषति ।
अमनुष्यवचनं श्रुत्वा कथं वर्तेम अन्यथा ॥ २१ ॥

śraddadhāma vayaṃ bhavato yathā govindo bhāṣati |
amanuṣyavacanaṃ śrutvā kathaṃ vartema anyathā || 21 ||

I believe the words that you have spoken, lord Govinda. Having heard the voice divine, what other course could you take? (21)
