Mahavastu [sanskrit verses and english]

by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 79.7

पूजा इह मे कृता असुरेहि बोधिम् अनुत्तरं प्रार्थयमाना ।
ते विजहित्व तमासुरकायं स्वर्गगता रमिष्यन्ति चिरं पि ॥ ७ ॥

pūjā iha me kṛtā asurehi bodhim anuttaraṃ prārthayamānā |
te vijahitva tamāsurakāyaṃ svargagatā ramiṣyanti ciraṃ pi || 7 ||

“The Asuras here paid me honour, for they seek the supreme enlightenment. When they have left their lives as Asuras, they will pass to heaven and dwell there in joy a long time. (7)
