by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 76.132

एष्याम वयं अपि दर्शनाय बुद्धं अनतिवरं वितीर्णकांक्षं ।
लोके उदपासि स सत्वसारो पुत्रं मह्यं यथा वदेसि भिक्षु ॥ १३२ ॥

eṣyāma vayaṃ api darśanāya buddhaṃ anativaraṃ vitīrṇakāṃkṣaṃ |
loke udapāsi sa satvasāro putraṃ mahyaṃ yathā vadesi bhikṣu || 132 ||

“We, too, will go to see the Buddha, whose excellence is unsurpassed, who has passed beyond doubt. From what you say about my son, O monk, the Choicest of beings has appeared in the world.” (132)
