Mahavastu [sanskrit verses and english]

by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 75.115

सो वाणिजां ग्रहेत्वा प्रक्रान्तो मेदिनीयं खगपथेन ।
आकाशे निरालम्बे मरुपक्षविहंगवायुपथे ॥ ११५ ॥

so vāṇijāṃ grahetvā prakrānto medinīyaṃ khagapathena |
ākāśe nirālambe marupakṣavihaṃgavāyupathe || 115 ||

And carrying the merchants with him he speeded over the earth in the ways of the birds, in the unsupporting air, swiftly flying with heavenly wings in the path of the wind. (115)
