This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 75.69

श्रुत्वा भयंकरिं वाचां इदम् आहन्सु वाणिजा ।
वयं पि जंबुद्वीपातो ओगाढा सलिलपतिं ॥ ६९ ॥

śrutvā bhayaṃkariṃ vācāṃ idam āhansu vāṇijā |
vayaṃ pi jaṃbudvīpāto ogāḍhā salilapatiṃ || 69 ||

Dismayed at the words they had heard the merchants within said, “We, too, are men who left Jambudvipa and went down to the sea. (69)
