This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 72.12

सज्योतीभूतं ज्वलितं निरयं शक्रो च निर्मिणि ।
बहुप्राणसहस्राणि पच्चमानानि दर्शये ॥ १२ ॥

sajyotībhūtaṃ jvalitaṃ nirayaṃ śakro ca nirmiṇi |
bahuprāṇasahasrāṇi paccamānāni darśaye || 12 ||

And Shakra conjured up a blazing, fiery hell, and showed him many thousands of beings in torment. (12)
