This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

को नु वेणो वा पाणो वा अथ वा पुनर् पुक्कसो ।
किस्य राजकुले जातो किं स्य कुर्वन्ततो मुखं ॥ १३७ ॥

ko nu veṇo vā pāṇo vā atha vā punar pukkaso |
kisya rājakule jāto kiṃ sya kurvantato mukhaṃ || 137 ||

“Is he a musician, or trader, or a pukkasa? In what royal court was he born? What is his especial skill?” (137)
