by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 65.112

अथ वा पुन प्रार्थयति निर्वाणं अच्युतं पदम् अशोकं ।
मार्गं दुःखप्रशमनं प्रतिलभते अल्पकिसरेण ॥ ११२ ॥

atha vā puna prārthayati nirvāṇaṃ acyutaṃ padam aśokaṃ |
mārgaṃ duḥkhapraśamanaṃ pratilabhate alpakisareṇa || 112 ||

But if on the other hand he seeks Nirvana, the immovable, griefless state, with little difficulty he attains the way that ends ill. (112)
